The Solid Edge-to-GibbsCAM Transfer Add-In, which facilitates model transfer to GibbsCAM with a single menu selection from within Solid Edge and was required as part of meeting the "Certified Select Product" qualifications, is now included as a standard feature of the GibbsCAM 2002 release allowing Solid Edge/GibbsCAM users easy access to this powerful capability. Updates to the Add-In will also be available at Gibbs' Online support section on their web site, www.GibbsCAM.com.
GibbsCAM customers continue to experience significant reductions, often as much as 75 to 85 percent, in their overall programming time through the Solid Edge/GibbsCAM CAD/CAM solution. Because GibbsCAM and Solid Edge are both based on the Parasolid modeling kernel, part model data can be directly exchanged. Not only does this common usage of Parasolid eliminate the need for data translation, but it also facilitates both systems evaluating the model exactly the same way preventing geometric differences from being introduced. This ensures that the part geometry will be machined directly as designed resulting in the highest degree of fidelity in the finished product. GibbsCAM's associativity mechanism also allows toolpath to be updated to reflect changes in the geometry without having to redefine parameters or re-associate geometry through "Redo All Ops". Changes to process parameters, such as tooling changes, speed and feed rates, can also be easily accommodated at any time.
