GibbsCAM to Attend Autodesk University


Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software for programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, announced today that GibbsCAM will be attending Autodesk University. The event, which is being held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 3rd-6th, 2002, is the premier event for Autodesk end-users. Autodesk users in the mechanical/manufacturing industry segment will be able to see first-hand the level of interoperability between GibbsCAM and the complete set of Autodesk design applications ranging from AutoCAD Mechanical, to Mechanical Desktop, to Inventor. GibbsCAM was recently certified under the Autodesk Inventor Certified Application Program for Inventor V6, the latest release of Autodesk's flagship 3D mechanical design system.

Haas Machine Tools' Production Turning Demo Day Features GibbsCAM

Key parts that are being machined as part of the demo day presentation were programmed using GibbsCAM's wide range of production turning capabilities. For example, the new MTM™ option was used to create a highly efficient program demonstrating the capabilities of Haas' new TL-15 and TL-25 turning centers with sub-spindles. Haas application engineers used GibbsCAM to generate NC output for these machine tools using optimized post processors.

GibbsCAM Awarded "Certified Select Product" Rating with Solid Edge V12

The certification process, which is part of the Solid Edge Voyager solution provider program, required completing extensive test procedures using Solid Edge V12. The tests performed rigorously exercised the integration between Solid Edge V12 and GibbsCAM 2002, to ensure a continued high-level of interoperability between the latest versions of the two applications.

New Interoperability Option for GibbsCAM Gets Enthusiastic Response at IMTS

The new interoperability option was developed using Granite technology licensed from Parametric Technology Corporation (Needham, MA). The Granite platform provides the base for the unmatched geometry, feature and data exchange capabilities at the core of Pro/ENGINEER, PTC's market-leading mechanical computer-aided design software. Gibbs and Associates demonstrated a number of the Granite-enabled data exchange capabilities, such as Pro/ENGINEER-to-GibbsCAM and STEP-to-GibbsCAM. Customer reaction to the new capabilities, particularly the new Pro/ENGINEER-to-GibbsCAM transfer capability, was extremely positive.

The Granite platform provides the base for the unmatched geometry, feature and data exchange capabilities at the core of Pro/ENGINEER, PTC's market-leading mechanical computer-aided design software. Gibbs and Associates will be demonstrating a number of these Granite- enabled data exchange capabilities, such as Pro/ENGINEER-to-GibbsCAM and STEP-to- GibbsCAM, in their booth, D3001, at IMTS 2002, being held at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, September 4-11. Haas Machine Tools Do High Speed Machining at Demo Day Using GibbsCAM


Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software for programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, announced today that Haas Automation, Inc. will use GibbsCAM at the upcoming second annual Demo Day to be held June 19th at Haas Factory Outlets throughout the United States and Canada. GibbsCAM created the CNC program to machine an aerospace spar out of 6061 aluminum demonstrating the high-speed machining capabilities of the Haas VF-2. During the Demo Day 2 event, the spar will be cut using a Haas VF-2 with 15,000-rpm spindle, 1200-ipm rapids and high-speed machining software with full look-ahead.

GibbsCAM Plays Key Role In Demonstrating STEP-NC Technology

At the last Industry Review Board meeting for the Model Driven Intelligent Control of Manufacturing project (MDICM) held February 20th and 21st in Troy, NY, a demonstration, using technology based on an extension to GibbsCAM that was developed by STEP Tools (Troy, NY), showed the potential of STEP-NC. The demonstration was done as part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Advanced Technology Project (ATP) MDICM project contract awarded to STEP Tools to develop and deploy a digital input standard for CNC machines. This in the final year of that ATP contract, so demonstrations of STEP-NC technology such as this one are vital to illustrate STEP-NC's viability, raise general awareness of STEP-NC and move STEP-NC from science fiction to within the horizon of realization.
